yup. will be another long season. it will be a long haul untill some of these prospects start turning into real difference makers. and who knows when that will be..

I still dont see a #1 C in sight, a #1D (Seider maybe) or #1G .

Right now I'd think Gagner is the 2C unless they want to put Fabbri there. I'm fine with slow cooking SeiderMan. That didn't sound right. You know what I mean. Let him develop in Europe for another season. I'd still target Vanilla Greiss as a UFA goalie. Corey Schneider was bought out today. He'd be another option. But he's being held together with duct tape.

That’s a good point. Gagner is probably the second best C at this point. Berggren has 2 goals and 5 assists in 4 games in the SHL. Good start, but I don’t see him leapfrogging Veleno at this point (as far as coming back over).

It still feels like we haven’t “filled out” the top parts necessary. I still believe Larkin can be a legit #1 C, but we need another C at least as good as he is. I don’t see that, and the drop off at the center position is steep right now

Keep all your top prospects down for one more year. You will be in the lottery for franchise player Shane Wright, and save a precious cheap year on all those entry level deals. Just suck for one more season and you guys will have all the pieces for a potential dynasty

Wouldn't put Fabbs in at #2C, think he's better on the wing. But the beauty of Fabbs is that the kid will skate in a jock-strap he's so dedicated to the team. He's always been touted as an incredible team player. One of the best moves DET's made in years.
I agree that Sam G should slide into the #2C slot, after that.....

Griess if we don't get Markstrom, hearing yet again that negotiations are going nowhere and he's going to test the market. Instant #1 G for us, sign him for 5x$6m, Bernie for back-up....Pickard can stew GR, IF....BIG IF....the AHL even has a season.

Good move keeping the kids in Europe....waiting until Dec for camp, then MAYBE AHL in Jan won't help them at all. Seasons end in March there, so we'll see these guys coming back for a cup of coffee around late-Mar to early-Apr as a sign of things to come. Hearing next year's draft looks to have some really solid D-men, have yet to check into the names/stats. Lots of $$$ coming off the books again at the end of this year.

Not sure how we'll do this year; the trust amongst the fan-base is there, but knowing The Captain's mentality, he wants to ice a power-house team soon for his hometown....Hockeytown. Patience, gang. It sucks to wait, but the pain is worth the gain.

That sure worked out this year... #1 pick is not guaranteed...

The team will suck but they still need some help to be competitive on most nights so to not create a loser's mentality...
Look at Buffalo for example, they've been stuck in that mentality and it's super hard to get out of it.

Team needs to improve a bit.

In past few years, I've said there's no long-term benefit to the Wings winning in the short term. They need high draft picks. Many people want Blashill gone, but I would counter that getting a better coach to squeak out a few extra wins doesn't help them long-term, as it drives down their draft order. However, I've changed my mind. Since the Wings moved down in each of their lottery years, and a playoff team gets the top pick in 2020, I'm convinced DRW will not get a top pick no matter how bad they are. My conspiracy theory is that the Wings will continue to drop down in the draft until they sign over the Hockeytown trademark to the NHL.

I didn't think there was a generational player since the Wings have been in the lottery, and I don't think there was one this year, and won't be one next year. It's looking like Shane Wright may be the first generational player since McDavid, so short of getting the top pick in two years, there's really no reason for the Wings to continue to tank. They need to change the culture and getting rid of some dead weight was a start. Now they need to bring in a coach that can develop the kids.

I know how depressing this sounds, especially since he's never been all that great offensively and also been almost exclusively used as a winger for the last three seasons. But I'm sadly kind of inclined to think that the best candidate for the 2C job this year is Darren Helm.

Hey man, I'm not saying I like it. It's just that when your other options are Filppula, Nielsen, Glendening, and Fabbri you gotta do the best you can with what you have.

Helm isn't the best option.
